This unleashed a massive surge downstream, causing widespread destruction. Numerous dams, bridges, highways, homes, and entire settlements were swept away, resulting in a tragic loss of lives. Fortunately, due to timely warnings and swift evacuation and rescue efforts led by the Sikkim Government and Kalimpong District administration, many lives were spared. However, a significant number of families are now left homeless, with only the clothes on their backs. This event marks a colossal human tragedy, and the full extent of its impact is still being assessed.
