It is situated in the northeastern part of the state, near the Himalayan range. Kalimpong is known for its natural beauty, serene atmosphere, and panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Kalimpong is nestled in the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas, at an altitude of about 1,250 meters (4,101 feet) above sea level. It is about 50 kilometres (31 miles) from Darjeeling and approximately 75 kilometres (47 miles) from Siliguri. The town is surrounded by lush green hills, dense forests, and the Teesta River flowing below. This makes it a popular destination for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat. Kalimpong is known for its cultural diversity. It is home to various ethnic groups including Gorkhas, Bhutias, Lepchas, and Bengalis. This diversity is reflected in the local cuisine, festivals, and traditions. Kalimpong experiences a temperate climate. Summers are pleasant with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C (59°F to 77°F), while winters can get quite chilly, with temperatures dropping to around 2°C to 10°C (36°F to 50°F).
