The Dooars also spelt as Duars, is a region located in the northeastern part of India, primarily in the state of West Bengal and extending into the state of Assam. The word "Dooars" is derived from the Bengali word "duar," which means "door" or "gateway," and the region serves as a gateway to the northeastern states of India, Bhutan, and Nepal. The Dooars region is situated at the foothills of the Eastern Himalayas and spans across the plains of West Bengal and Assam. It is characterized by lush green tea gardens, dense forests, and numerous rivers and streams. The Dooars is known for its rich biodiversity. It is home to a variety of wildlife including Bengal tigers, Indian rhinoceros, elephants, leopards, and several species of deer. National parks and wildlife sanctuaries like Jaldapara National Park and Buxa Tiger Reserve are located in this region. The Dooars is one of the major tea-producing regions in India. It is famous for its extensive tea gardens that stretch for miles. The tea estates contribute significantly to the economy of the region.
