ROCKY ISLAND

Rocky Island is a new tourist destination in Dooars. Situated on the banks of the River Murti it is about 2 km from Samsing and is a popular camping site. The view of river and surrounding forests are excellent from Rocky Island but tourist amenities are basic. Rocky Island with its serene ambiance and pictorial views has become a favored destination of North Bengal for the nature lovers traveling in Dooars. The beauty of Rocky Island can be relished throughout the year due to its pleasant water but if the tourists want to par take in activities like camping and trekking the best time to visit Rocky Island is during winter season from mid October to December when the sky remains clear and tourist can enjoy the grand vista of Himalayan range.

MONGPONG

Just half an hour drive from Siliguri gets you to the gateway to the Dooars, Mongpong, a small Bengal village located on the banks of the River Teesta. The Teesta Basin and the Mahananda Sanctuary are two of the most important tourist destinations here. The scenic beauty of Mongpong allures the tourists. The place has vast forest reserves, little shops selling the bare essentials and a check post by the forest department. Sevok Bazaar, on the bank of the river Teesta is a small market place selling local goods. One might manage to find a souvenir or two here. The Coronation Bridge over the river Teesta which, being rather modern, is a contrast to the village itself. While planning a trip to Mongpong make sure you plan well in advance. The government runs a Forest Rest House, which is overbooked often. Apart from the rest house, Mangpong features several small hotels that are not very expensive. Frequent cars are available to and from Siliguri. Wildlife Bird and animal lovers will not be let down by Mongpong as one can get a glimpse of the Brahminy and Pintail Ducks, Bear Headed Geese, Poachards and Mallards. Some birds migrate here during the winters from Ladakh and other places in Asia. There are many monkeys in the area.

BINDU

Situated just before Bhutan border, about 107 kilometer from Siliguri is the last hamlet of West Bengal, Bindu. Perched at an altitude of 2000ft along the meandering river Jaldhaka, scenically blessed with the view of daunting lofty hills and increase demand of tourism in Dooars, Bindu has emerged as a favored offbeat destination of Dooars region. The word "Bindu" is derived from Bengali word which stands for the word "point". Bindu is famous among the traveler for offering an astounding vista of Dooars plains and mountainous valley of Bhutan.


BHUTANGHAT

Sited at the edge of Buxa Tiger Reserve near Indo-Bhutan border is a less trodden destination of Dooars called Bhutanghat. Buxa Tiger Reserve is the 15th forest reserve to be entitled as the tiger reserve in India. Located at a distance of 45km from Alipurduar along the bank of meandering river Raidak, Bhutanghat with its pictorial view and serene ambiance has ensnared the heart of many travelers. Endowed with rich flora and fauna, Bhutanghat is famous among the tourist for its scenic beauty. Cuddled in the base of Bhutan hill, Bhutanghat derived its name for its unique location.


JHALONG

Located 99km from the bustling city Siliguri, on the way to Bindu is a lesser known hill station of Dooars, Jhalong. Jhalong is a small village situated on the banks of river Jaldhaka, near India-Bhutan border in the Kalimpong subdivision of Darjeeling district in West Bengal, India. The serene ambiance and scenic beauty of Jhalong has made it a favored offbeat destination of Dooars region. The major attraction of the Jhalong is known to be the Hydro Electricity Project built on the Jaldhaka River.


CHAMURCHI

Located at a distance of 60km from Jalpaiguri near the Indo-Bhutan border is a new found destination of Dooars region called Chamurchi. Far from the bustling city, Chamurchi is a small village situated near Banarhat is known for its scenic beauty. Banarhat is an important town of Dooars region which acts as the melting pot for 23 tea gardens. Chamurchi is still a less trodden destination making it a tourist rush free zone. Endowed with abundance of natural beauty, the nature bound Chamurchi with its serene ambiance and untainted beauty has ensnared the heart of tourist who has come across this virgin destination of Dooars.
