It is a significant transportation route in the Darjeeling district, connecting the town of Siliguri with the hill station of Darjeeling. Tindharia is a small town situated along the Hill Cart Road, approximately halfway between Siliguri and Darjeeling. It is known for its railway station, which is a part of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tindharia holds historical significance as it was an important location for the maintenance and repair of the DHR's locomotives during the British colonial period.
