It holds significant cultural and historical importance for the local population and is also known for its breathtaking natural beauty. Chungthang Valley is situated at an altitude of around 1,700 meters above sea level. It is approximately 95 kilometers away from the state capital, Gangtok. The valley is renowned for its stunning landscapes, surrounded by lush green hills, gushing rivers, and snow-capped peaks. The Lachen and Lachung rivers converge at Chungthang, adding to the beauty of the area. Chungthang is considered a sacred place by the local Lepcha community. It is believed to be blessed by Guru Padmasambhava, a revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism. The Lepcha and Bhutia communities are predominant in this region. The cultural practices, festivals, and lifestyle of these communities add to the unique charm of Chungthang.
